Below you will find a set of options for donations and charitable purchases.

Do you have an IRA or 401K from which you are required to make distributions?  If so, please read this article about making Qualified Charitable Distributions and the possible savings for your income tax.  Please note that you should consult your tax professional before implementing any of the actions described in the article.

In the fold-down sections below you will find a button to send money – either via a PayPal Donate button or an Add to Cart Button that will bring up a Shopping Cart with a Pay Now button – and a contact form to send us information about your donation.  Please provide the information needed, as appropriate, via the contact form and also actually make the payment.

Give a recurring or one time donation with an amount you specify.

Note that recurring donations will require a PayPal account. Click the donate button. It will take you to a PayPal page. Enter the amount by starting with the cursor to the right of “$0.00” and select the recurring donation box. Recurring payments will continue until you edit them in your PayPal account. You should also contact us to stop them from our end. Note that this same PayPal page will allow a one time donation.

This contact form with the fill-in boxes and the Send button is only necessary if you wish to direct your donation to a specific use and not to our General Fund. Possible Directed Donations are: building repair, Passover Seders, Shabbos Kiddush, etc. If you are donating to the General Fund, just use the Donate or similar buttons below. Please note that if the needs of your directed use are met, excess funds will roll over to our general fund.

Remember or honor someone

Use this donation to honor or remember someone. It is customary to do this for a Yahrzeit, for example, but honoring the living is also very appropriate and appreciated. You may also use this for a Yizkor donation. If your donation meets the guideline amounts for an Individual Supporter, feel free to use that option, or just fill in the information here.

This Donate button can be used for a one time or recurring donation. Make the selection on the PayPal page. A recurring donation has to be done through PayPal. A one time donation can be done via credit card without a PayPal account.

General Fund

All contributions to the synagogue are deposited in the General Fund unless otherwise specified. The General Fund is used to cover all the regular day to day expenses of running the synagogue. If you wish to give a directed donation, that is, one for a specific purpose, you can do so in the recurring and one time donation fold-downs above.

Other Contributions and Purchases that are Available.

Supporter Role

VCJC has created the role of Supporter to acknowledge those businesses, organizations, and individuals who directly contribute to it to support its religious and community activities through this program.  Businesses and organizations get a listing on our Supporter Page that can include the business name, address, contact information, a descriptive tagline, and a hyperlink (and an email link if desired).  Business and organization supporters also receive a certificate for display at their place of business, are welcome to describe themselves as VCJC Supporters in any advertising they do, and receive discounts for Classified Web Ads here on the VCJC website.

Individuals will have their names listed or may remain anonymous if they prefer. They may include a short message, such as “In Honor of…” or “In Memory of…”.

You can enroll as a Supporter at the appropriate fold-down above or contact us at ads@vcjewishcenter.org. Note that the fold-down option for “Remember or Honor Someone”, which is also appropriate for Yahrzeit and Yizkor donations, offers the opportunity to be included as an Individual Supporter if the contribution meets the guidelines.

Occasion Cards – $5 each

Occasion cards acknowledging your donation to the synagogue will be sent at your request. Cards are: “In Honor of”, “In Memory of”, and “For the Return to Good Health of”.

In addition to membership and High Holiday tickets, the items there include Memorial Plaques, Kaddish, Kiddush, Shallos Seudos, and entries in the annual Book of Remembrance. (Some of those items may be moved to this page in the near future, or duplicated here.)

Our Charitable Activities in the Community

Charity Fund

Contributions to the Charity Fund come mainly from the tzedakah placed in the “pushka” (charity box) by our daily minyan, but other directed contributions are welcome. The Charity committee meets regularly to distribute a portion of the deposits in this Fund to various charitable organizations.

Benevolent Fund

The Benevolent Fund is to help people in the community who are in temporary need of minor financial assistance. A small committee of three individuals evaluates applications and distributes funds as appropriate.

We now have an affiliate store.
