There is a dispute between the Rambam and the Ramban why we make Kiddush on Shabbos. The Rambam understands that Kiddush is to say that Shabbos is separated from weekday. Ramban says that this is the Jewish nation declaring that Shabbos is holy and reenacting a declaration that we are creating the holiness of Shabbos. Even though Shabbos was already declared holy at the beginning of creation, we are reenacting what Hashem did at the time of creation. Second topic for discussion. The davening that we do in Shul, is that the Kiddush or is the Kiddush that we make when we get home when we make it on a cup of wine?
